6.10. 2011
On Thursday next week I will meet the partners of the EU project CEFcult in Heerlen, the Netherlands. We will all take part in the seminar where the new CEFcult environment will be presented to the audience. The seminar is open to the audience, so I look forward to meeting you too. I publish the official invitation to the seminar on this page and try to motivate you to come to Heerlen too :-). If it's not possible for you to be there please read the text anyway.
Tackle the challenge of intercultural communication
Facing the challenge of foreign languages and other cultural differences is a big challenge for enterprises. The EU project CEFcult wants to tackle the challenge and help European enterprises and institutions in their tasks of intercultural communication and in globalization at large. The CEFcult consortium presents a learning environment for intercultural communicative competence training in Heerlen, the Netherlands, on Thursday 13th of October.
Both informal and formal learning
The environment is designed to support informal learning initiatives, initiated by learners themselves, but can also be used in formal learning settings (e.g. in classes/cohorts in schools or universities). Learners are challenged to record their responses elicited by authentic intercultural scenarios.
Recording with webcam on the fly
Immediate recording by means of webcam is an important innovation of the CEFcult tool. You need not think about different formats of video, or prepare and upload videos in advance. You can do it all on the fly, and once recorded videos are available right after that.
Authentic scenarios
These scenarios are derived from situations and ‘critical events’ in real-life professional intercultural interaction and collaboration. Learners’ performances can be self-and/or peer assessed with the help of the provided assessment frameworks INCA (http://www.incaproject.org/framework.htm) and CEFR (http://europass.cedefop.europa.eu/LanguageSelfAssessmentGrid/en). Teachers and experts in intercultural communication and collaboration can contribute to the CEFcult environment with new tailor-made scenarios and further elaborations of the assessment frameworks.
Strong consortium
CEFcult is a collaboration between 12 European Higher educational institutes, under coordination of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. It is supported by the European Commission under the Lifelong Learning Programme of the Education, Audiovisual & Culture Executive Agency (key activity 2: Languages).
Join the seminar please!
You are invited to join the seminar, which takes place in the Pretoria building (room 3/4) on the campus of the Open Universiteit in Heerlen. The project team will present the results, user experiences and foreseen exploitation paths in the morning, followed by lunch. The afternoon is for questions, remarks and small group discussions, with the objective to gauge your vision on all that has been presented. At 17.00 p.m. we close the day with a drink. The language of communication during the day is English. Participation is free. However, registration in advance is required. You can register by sending a mail to Mr. Slavi Stoyanov including your name, job position and organisation (and any dietary requirements regarding the lunch). If you register, we assume that you participate during the complete day.
We hope to see you on the 13th of October!
Interest in CEFcult training?
Please send me an email to mail@euneos.fi if you are interested in learning to know how to use the CEFcult tool for making scenarios and for assessing your skills on the fly. There's going to be onsite training for the use of the CEFcult tool later. I will send you information about it to the mail adress given by you.
