Earlier, and even today, teachers feel that one basic task for them is to keep control in the classroom. Not dependent on what technology is used in education, the starting point of teaching is to have the attention of the students, for obvious reasons. There are both hardware and software systems for the classrooms to administer and guide the virtual communication of the lessons/sessions. Today the teacher can monitor the screens of the students’ computers constantly, and conduct the flow of the event from his teacher’s computer.
Smart phones connected with smart board
I suppose that the smart phones connected with a smart board could be equipped with software enabling full control of the teacher just the same way as desktop computers today.
More intensive virtual interaction
Today data projectors and whiteboards are used for presenting study contents to the group. Taking smart boards into use creates new opportunities for more intensive virtual interaction. I admit that it’s just my own imagination that allows me to see the screens of smart phones reflected on the smart board, and the teacher working at the smart board doing basically the same things as

earlier using desktop computers.
Smart phones of students
It’s only a question of time that all our students will have smart phones available. Digital contents replace old printed and analogical materials. Instead of buying books students buy smart phones and other computing devices, and have access to free or inexpensive digital contents.
New software needed
In addition, new software for creating, executing and assessing learning scenarios on the fly will be produced. Of course, such software must be written also for mobile communication. If Apple iOS, Android and Windows Phone producers have not yet started such new programming, they should do it ASAP.
Technology can surprise
Last but not least, technology can surprise us, and if things go differently from what I have described before, don’t blame me ;-). I have been involved in educational development of the Internet from the beginning, and I know that there is always something radically new behind the corner, which may change the whole scene. Anyway, I believe in the development of technology, also in education. I think it’s always useful to see the new opportunities, and to discuss openly about them.
